Best Bunk Beds has joined forces with UK pest control operator Cleankill to help youth hostels nationwide tackle the increasingly prevalent bed bug problem. A brochure produced by the two companies entitled ‘Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite’ educates hostel owners about the rise of bed bugs around the world, as well as how to go about preventing an outbreak in their properties. A copy of the guide is being sent to budget accommodation providers nationwide to make sure the issue is paid maximum attention. Outbreaks of bed bugs have increased a significant amount in recent years, not only in the UK but also across the entire world. Cleankill have noticed a profound increase in reports of bed bugs over the last 15 years. Cleankill Manager Director Paul Bates said: “Bed bugs are a huge problem in the US and Canada as well as other countries and it is only a matter of time before the problem gets worse over there.” Likewise, Best Bunk Beds have become more and more aware of the issue due to working so closely within the budget accommodation industry. As Director of Best Bunk Beds Max Letek commented: “Compared with more expensive hotels, people assume hostels are more likely to have bed bugs but there’s no solid data to support the idea of hostels having a higher incidence of bed bugs than high-end hotels at all. This is because bed bugs are an exposure pest and have nothing to do with sanitation”
